Home Transmission and Interconnectors Unplanned outages in transmission grid

Failures

The TenneT grid

TenneT currently manages over 19,100 kilometres of high-voltage lines, both above and below ground. Proper maintenance and management of this infrastructure is essential, since power-grid failures can affect the supply of electricity. That is why we work hard to ensure the grid's reliability, striving to minimize the number of failures per year. And our efforts are successful: compared to other European countries, TenneT operates a solid and reliable high-voltage grid with a relatively low number of "failure minutes".

Failures

Although TenneT makes every effort to prevent power failures, you may still be affected by an interruption in the supply of electricity to your home or business. TenneT tries to resolve failures as soon as possible after we become aware of them. In some cases, however, the problem is so complicated that the power outage lasts longer than expected. Should you experience any long-term inconvenience due to a failure in the TenneT grid, you will be appropriately compensated by us in accordance with the applicable legislation. Any claims for compensation must be submitted to the administrator of the grid to which you are connected. This also applies to power failures that originated in another grid. After all, your connection and transmission contract was concluded with the administrator of the grid to which you are connected.

Questions on power failures Please contact the TenneT Service Centre if you have any questions regarding failures in the high-voltage grid or the consequences thereof.
